Schreier wrote on Twitter that the announcement of the Ubisoft Massive project is official confirmation that Disney does not intend to renew its contract with Electronic Arts for the publisher’s exclusive development of games set in the Star Wars universe after 2023.
The post states that Disney and Electronic Arts signed a ten-year contract, as previously reported. The release of a game under the Star Wars license by another company could also point to an early termination of the partnership. However, Ubisoft Massive is just starting work, and the game will almost certainly not be released before 2023, when the contract between EA and Disney expires.
Jason Schreier is not a source of official information, but it seems to align with what Disney representatives wrote. Even if true, EA can still release Star Wars games. Back in May, the publisher called Jedi: Fallen Order a new franchise, and there are grounds for the appearance of the next installment of Star Wars: Battlefront.
