The perpetrators offered software that enabled cheating in online games. In particular, they sold aimbots – auto-targeting at enemies. The main focus was on mobile games and third-person shooters, but there were also tools for Overwatch and Valorant.
The most important market for the gang was China, but sales were conducted worldwide. Customers could subscribe to use cheats in several options – 10 dollars per day, 50 dollars per week, and 200 dollars per month. The gang earned 10,000 dollars daily, investing the money in virtual currency and luxury cars worth up to 20 million dollars.
Chinese police received the first information about the group a year ago. As a result of the investigation, an organized operation was carried out, during which raids were conducted simultaneously in several different locations, 17 cheat websites were shut down, and ten people were arrested. The agency claims this is the largest organization of its kind in the world in terms of money involved, number of games, and user base.
The assets of the detainees have been confiscated, and they face prison sentences.
