On time and with complications. A PlayStation 3 version of Gears of War 3 has been published online

An unusual port has entered the public domain. It turns out there were attempts to port Microsoft’s console exclusive to the PS3.

A user under the nickname PixelButts announced on their Twitter that they uploaded a PlayStation 3 build of Gears of War 3 to the Internet Archive website. Now anyone can download the game and check it out.

However, things are not so simple yet. At the moment, the game can only be fully run on debug PS3 consoles. This is due to the fact that they have more RAM than standard versions of the consoles.

Here is what it looks like.

The build was created by Epic Games on May 19, 2011. The company was trying to test the Unreal Engine on the Sony console. PixelButts decided to release the build on May 19 as well to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the project.

The author noted that the game runs on an emulator. However, it does not load past the title screen.

This ported version of Gears of War 3 was never meant to come out — it was an experiment by Epic Games. Released in September 2011, the game remained an Xbox console exclusive.
