A consequence of wild hype. Cyberpunk 2077 makes the list of games with the largest fanbases

The story of Cyberpunk 2077 shows how quickly the top contender for “game of the year” can suddenly become an example of a product that failed to live up to expectations. But this does not mean the game lacks one of the strongest fan communities.

The FandomSpot.com portal published a list of ten fanbases in which Cyberpunk 2077 took sixth place. The CDPR game surpassed Marvel, Grand Theft Auto, Star Wars, and many other well-known brands.

The list was compiled based on three statistical metrics: Reddit subforum visits, new search terms in Google Trends, and social media hashtags since March 2020. The most important factor was the first metric, which is easier for newcomers to enter. Cyberpunk 2077 also took second place in terms of Google Trends term growth and Reddit account registrations (and third in Google search).

However, the undisputed winner was Minecraft with a FandomSpot score of over 34,000 points, which is more than double that of Pokemon, which ranked second. Animal Crossing rounded out the podium, followed by Dungeons and Dragons and The Legend of Zelda.

These results are not some deep analysis. Cyberpunk 2077’s popularity at release is natural, while now the game is more frequently mentioned in bug reports. But this can be viewed as a kind of proof of interest that could eventually restore customer confidence.
