A new anti-cheat has been officially announced for Call of Duty. Ricochet is a “multi-faceted approach” aimed at combating cheaters. It will monitor at the kernel level.
Activision justifies this step (introducing an anti-cheat with a kernel driver) with the words: “The kernel-level driver monitors applications that may attempt to manipulate Call of Duty: Warzone game code while it is running.”
Ricochet is similar to the Vanguard anti-cheat in Valorant by Riot Games. A kernel-level driver (kernel driver) is used. Previously, Valorant's anti-cheat was criticized, with some believing it had overly broad permissions. Activision appears to have learned the lessons.
It is stated that the driver will not run continuously, but only while playing Warzone, shutting down after exiting. Ricochet is expected to only check processes associated with Warzone.
Warzone battle royale players are suffering from an influx of cheaters. It is possible that the new system will make life more difficult for players who engage in such unsporting behavior.
