We have already written about insider Jeff Grubb talking about the uncompromising Need for Speed. The game is reportedly targeted solely at current-generation consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, meaning the developers won't be held back by outdated devices.
According to his information, the new Need for Speed will be “photorealistic”, but at the same time it will feature anime elements: “You know when you see a car commercial or something like that and the car’s driving around, but then cartoon flames and stuff fly off it? That’s the kind of aesthetic that they seem to be going for”.
The events of Need for Speed will unfold in a fictional version of Chicago called Lake Shore City: “Criterion wants to make it feel like a real city, even though it’s a fictionalized version [of Chicago]”.
Amid rumors that Sony is buying Kojima Productions, Grubb stated that the deal between Kojima and Microsoft was “still on as of a couple of weeks ago”. In his opinion, this deal would not stand in the way of a potential acquisition by Sony. He did not share any details regarding the launch of the project with Microsoft.
