The rollout of the revamped PlayStation Plus service has not gone smoothly. Sony has already faced criticism over issues with several classic PS1 games.
Now questions have emerged regarding the upgrade pricing for PS Plus subscription tiers. As it turns out, Sony is tracking those who managed to save money. These “savings” are factored in when calculating the upgrade cost.
A forum post on Reddit gives an example: “If you got 1 yr PS Plus with 25% discount, you paid $45. To upgrade to extra, you need to pay 100 - 45 = $55 instead of 100-60=$40 [$60 is the full price of the subscription]”, meaning Sony added the previously saved $15 to the upgrade price.
As a result, those looking to save money found their plans ruined: “Sony is taking the discount back [charging the price difference when upgrading], that is what it is”, summarized the author of the Reddit post.
Ahead of the revamped PlayStation Plus launch, gamers actively stacked subscriptions, preparing for a cost-effective conversion. Now, if someone stacked a subscription for, say, 10 years, then, as reported, they will have to pay accordingly for the entire duration upon upgrading.
