Street Fighter 5 outsold the iconic Street Fighter 2

At launch in February 2016, the latest Street Fighter to date was poorly received due to balance issues and technical shortcomings. The developer continued to update the game, releasing a complete edition in 2020 — Street Fighter V: Championship Edition. Currently, the game is more popular on Steam than Mortal Kombat 11.

Interest in the game shows no signs of waning, as evidenced by numerous tournaments held in the US and Asian countries. Capcom announced that Street Fighter V has sold 6.6 million copies, surpassing the historic record of the second installment, which reached 6.3 million copies. This makes it the best-selling entry in the franchise to date.

Street Fighter II is no exception. As experts from the NeoGaf forum point out, a similar fate soon awaits Mega Man II, which will soon be dethroned by Mega Man 11. Currently, the difference in sales between the two games is around 10,000 copies. It was also recently reported that the modern version of Resident Evil 2 has surpassed the original in terms of copies sold.
