NVIDIA urges to forget about falling graphics card prices

Graphics card development has become more expensive. An NVIDIA executive explained that the idea of GPUs getting cheaper is a thing of the past

Following the shift in the cryptocurrency market, used graphics cards have begun appearing on sale. Now, far from everyone is rushing to buy a graphics card at a price above MSRP (or even at MSRP), since a secondary market now exists.

However, an NVIDIA executive urges people not to assume that this trend of falling graphics card prices will continue in the future.

Jensen Huang stated: “Moore’s Law is dead… A 12-inch wafer is much more expensive today. The idea that the price of a chip [used in graphics card production] will decrease is a story of the past.”

Huang explained that the driving force behind rising graphics card prices is the increasing cost of components, as well as slowing performance gains. He also noted that the 3080 will “continue to live,” meaning that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-series is not going anywhere from the market just yet.
