Rumor: massive changes made to GTA 5 anti-cheat system

It is no secret that Grand Online lobbies are overrun with cheaters who frequently cause unprecedented chaos in matches.

According to Rockstar Games insider and dataminer Tez2, the latest patch for Grand Theft Auto V on PC removes 95% of the game’s anti-cheat system. Many joke that they do not see much of an issue here, as the game is already swarming with cheaters. At the moment, nobody knows why Rockstar made such drastic changes. There is speculation that the game will receive a new, revamped protection system if Tez2’s report proves accurate.

Rockstar Games has not yet stated that it will replace the protection system, but given the recent massive hack and leak of Grand Theft Auto VI assets, this hardly comes as a surprise. The hacker claimed to have access to the source code of Rockstar games, and while it is unclear how true that is, Rockstar is likely better off erring on the side of caution and making adjustments to its games.

Whether Rockstar Games will issue any official comment on the matter remains to be seen.
