Despite numerous theories about the causes of the failure, the problem has still not been resolved. Another incident occurred with a Reddit user and their RTX 4090 Founders Edition graphics card, purchased on October 19. The owner intentionally placed the card into an Asus ROG Helios case without a side panel to avoid bending the 16-pin adapter. He also connected a 1200W ASUS ROG Thor power supply. But that did not prevent a disaster.
After a week of active use of the device, playing mainly Call of Duty: Warzone, at one point the monitor stopped displaying an image, which did not return after several computer reboots. After disconnecting the graphics card, he discovered a melted adapter. The card and adapter were sent to Nvidia for analysis, and three days later the user received a replacement device. However, the gamer stated that he would not use the new card until Nvidia issued an official statement.
Currently, 30 cases of the card’s adapter melting have been recorded, and Nvidia has still not revealed the cause of the malfunction. The company only says that it continues to investigate the reports, but is not yet ready to draw concrete conclusions.
