The creator of Vampire Survivors doesn't understand why the game is so popular

At some point, players noticed Vampire Survivors, and its popularity skyrocketed. The game even hooked Xbox head Phil Spencer

Vampire Survivors has captivated many players. Even Xbox head Phil Spencer got caught in the indie project’s web.

What is the secret behind Vampire Survivors’ success? The game’s developer, Luca Galante (or Poncle), doesn’t understand himself why Vampire Survivors is such a popular game.

In a conversation with IGN journalists, he stated: “While it’s very hard for me to believe that [Vampire Survivors] is worth all that attention, I’m glad that it got it, because it shows that literally anyone can do it, and it will hopefully push more indie devs to keep pushing their projects. I don't say this out of ‘goodness’, but selfishness: I want to see more and more [games like] Celestes, Undertales, Powerwash Simulators, Wandersongs, and Short Hikes getting the spotlight they deserve!”.

Vampire Survivors has left Steam Early Access, but the game’s development continues, and interest in it is not fading. The game runs great on Steam Deck. A paid DLC featuring additional content was recently released.
