Journalists heap praise on Sony's PS VR2, dissatisfied with only one major issue

Sony arrived at CES 2023 with PlayStation VR 2, giving journalists the opportunity to test the virtual reality headset. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

It is reported that attendees of the technology event in Los Angeles were given a chance to try a segment of Horizon Call of the Mountain from Sony's in-house studio, which will serve as the flagship showcasing the device's full capabilities.

A journalist from TrustedReviews:

“I have to admit that I was very pessimistic about the PS VR 2 until I tried the headset. The device genuinely impressed me. It might be one of the best VR headsets I have ever used.”

The author added that the headset was so comfortable that he did not have to adjust it once during the 30-minute demonstration of Call of the Mountain. Moreover, testing it became his “favorite VR experience, akin to Half-Life: Alyx.”

T3 journalist:

“There has been a lot of talk about the PS VR 2, including the steep price tag. But after being among the first to try out the virtual reality headset at the world's biggest tech show, CES 2023, I immediately pre-ordered it… Based on the short demo, I think Horizon Call of the Mountain will be the game that convinces me that virtual reality makes sense.”

An AndroidAuthority journalist called the PS VR 2 “a huge step forward compared to the original” and “an upgrade in every important aspect.” He also appreciated that the headset does not require a camera to function, offering far greater freedom of movement.

There is only one negative takeaway across the reviews—the price of $550 in the US and €600 in Europe.
