Last year’s show “House of the Dragon” achieved a result that will be difficult for any project to beat, but Sony has plenty to be proud of.
By releasing the first episode of The Last of Us, HBO and HBO Max managed to draw 4.7 million viewers to their screens. Not counting last year’s “House of the Dragon”, this is the largest corporate release since 2010 and the premiere of the series “Boardwalk Empire” (4.81 million).
The “Game of Thrones” prequel, “House of the Dragon”, achieved an incredible result – 9.986 million viewers. This is a record for an original series on HBO.
The Last of Us garnered nearly twice as many views as the season two premiere of “Euphoria”, HBO’s big hit (2.4 million). Episodes of that series were watched by an average of 19.5 million viewers in the US.
HBO confirms that the Sunday night viewership (premiere day) typically accounts for 20%–40% of the series’ total viewership.
