Remedy Entertainment introduced the Northlight Engine and discussed its advantages

Nowadays, more and more developers are abandoning proprietary engines and switching to Unity or Unreal Engine. But not all of them.

Remedy Entertainment studio recorded a special video explaining why it decided to stick with its proprietary technology when many similar things could be implemented on Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5, and perhaps even on Unity.

The Northlight Engine has been used in Remedy games since 2016, and the first game based on this technology was Quantum Break, released on PC and Xbox One.

The engine has turned seven years old; Control was released on it, and Alan Wake 2 will soon arrive, which is being developed using it and could become the biggest and best project in the history of the Scandinavian studio.
