Path tracing in Cyberpunk 2077. Graphics comparison on RTX 4090

Cyberpunk 2077 is becoming a more technologically advanced game. NVIDIA showed how the CD Projekt RED game is transforming

Cyberpunk 2077 continues to get better. NVIDIA decided to demonstrate the special Ray Tracing Overdrive Mode graphics mode in action.

The CD Projekt RED game uses path tracing. Cyberpunk 2077 footage was recorded on a GeForce RTX 4090 at 4K resolution with DLSS 3 enabled.

Path tracing in Cyberpunk 2077 allows improving the quality of global illumination and reflections, calculating various light sources present in the game world: advertising billboards, car headlights, streetlights, and more. The technology delivers physically correct soft shadows. Reflections are rendered at full resolution.

Path tracing differs from ray tracing in that shadows, reflections, and global illumination are calculated together rather than separately. Furthermore, with path tracing, the number of light sources is virtually unlimited.

The release of Ray Tracing Overdrive Mode for Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for April 11. NVIDIA recommends using GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards and DLSS 3.
