Huge success of Contraband Police saved creators from bankruptcy. Quarter of a million copies of the game sold

The developers of Contraband Police announced sales of over 250,000 copies. The game was released in early March and briefly became one of the most popular on Steam.

Contraband Police was in development for six years, initially by a small team of three people, and later by five developers. The efforts paid off—Contraband Police has 94% positive reviews after 4,200 impressions.

Crazy Rocks founder Stanislaw Gromadowski said:

“In 2017, the company was on the verge of bankruptcy. To be able to keep making indie games, we approached the publisher PlayWay, where together with an investor we chose the theme of our future game. Initially, it was supposed to be a simple border contraband search simulator, and we expected it would take a year to complete.”

“We postponed the release date many times, but I honestly admit—after 3 years of work, I already knew that this was the project of a lifetime. A project where I could apply my years of experience to create a unique and ambitious game.”

The border patrol officer simulator arrived on Steam on March 8 and reached sales of 49,000 copies just two days later. At its peak, over 8.1 thousand concurrent players were playing on Steam, and the game remains on Valve’s bestseller list today, albeit at a lower position. Plans include a release on consoles, as well as the creation of an “endless” contraband search mode for those who have explored both endings.
