At the beginning of State of Play, information about Final Fantasy XVI itself was confirmed – this is the latest entry in the great series, and playing it does not require familiarity with previous installments.
The protagonist of the adventure is Clive Rosfield, whom players will get to know across different stages of his life. You can navigate the game map using fast travel to previously discovered locations. Places where Clive rides a chocobo were also demonstrated.
All combat in Final Fantasy XVI takes place in real time and resembles Devil May Cry. The battles are spectacular, as Clive utilizes a variety of skills.
Square Enix also showcased the character progression system – Clive has multiple skill trees tied to different Eikons. A story-focused mode without intense combat encounters is also available.
Square Enix also presented one of the most exciting elements of the game – boss fights.
