Project Sirius is a spin-off of The Witcher series from the Boston studio The Molasses Flood. It was recently reported that CD Projekt RED decided to rethink the project, but no specific details were provided. It seems that an understanding of the direction the studio is heading is beginning to emerge: staff layoffs.
This refers to posts by several former The Molasses Flood employees who announced the layoffs on Twitter. Last Friday, narrative designer Robert Bailey and Eleanore Falck, who was responsible for environment design, announced they were looking for a new place to work.
Eleanore Falck:
“I’m sad to announce that I was laid off from The Molasses Flood. Currently starting to look for new opportunities. If you know of a friendly and fun studio working on a stylish game that needs environment art, please let me know!”
CD Projekt Red later provided a comment regarding the layoffs on Project Sirius. The developers confirmed that the staff turnover at The Molasses Flood is tied to the “new framework” mentioned recently.
“The changes in the team working on Project Sirius were a natural consequence of defining a new framework for the project – mostly on The Molasses Flood’s side. We parted ways with 21 team members in the US and eight people in Poland. That is all we can share on this matter.”
