The team discussed whether they could take a template or mechanics from the studio’s previous games – Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring – and create something similar, but in the world of mechs. They decided against it, choosing their signature style instead. Therefore, it will not be a game identical to the Souls series. The world will not be open, but the game will not be completely linear or easy either. The project is expected to feature a high level of difficulty, which will require tactical thinking and planning from players.
Lead game designer Masaru Yamamura stated that Armored Core 6 features a rich mech customization system. Players will be able to choose from a variety of parts and weapons that affect the appearance and stats of their mechs. Players will also be able to change the colors and emblems of their machines. Yamamura added that the game will include hundreds of different parts to unlock.
Armored Core 6 contains references to previous installments in the series, but at the same time, it will serve as a fresh start. The game’s release is scheduled for August 25, 2023, on PC, previous- and current-generation consoles, excluding Nintendo Switch.
