EGS is so toxic that PAYDAY 2 developers didn't mention it on Steam. Fans appreciated the vague announcement

The Epic Games Store used to snatch prominent major releases from Steam and turn them into exclusives. Some people remember that all too well

The Epic Games Store has a bad reputation. A few years ago, the store with a reduced cut for developers was quite aggressively “taking away” anticipated releases, turning them into EGS exclusives.

Steam users often hold developers' ties with EGS against them when they finally decide to release their game on Valve's platform. That is why fans appreciated a recent announcement from the creators of PAYDAY 2, where EGS was not mentioned at all.

A brief announcement with the intriguing headline “PAYDAY 2: On a new PC platform” was published in the PAYDAY 2 Steam community. It consists of literally just a few words, with the developers suggesting visiting the blog via the link.

In the blog itself, they finally explain what this secrecy was all about: PAYDAY 2 has arrived on the Epic Games Store, and its launch on the service was celebrated with a free giveaway (they clarified that Epic itself offered to give the game away for free during the first week).

The upcoming PAYDAY 3 will be released on PC not only on Steam, but also on the Epic Games Store. The developers emphasize that launching on EGS does not mean that PD2 or PD3 will become an exclusive (EGS): “we want to be wherever there are players”. It is also claimed that Steam players will not be forced to download any additional services (Epic has been trying to push its services into some Steam games, which annoys players).
