Insider revealed the first details of The Last of Us 3. The studio took an unusual approach

Despite the early stage of preparation, the “main filming phase” will take place at the end of 2023, and the actors will arrive at the studio in the coming months to participate in motion capture sessions and dialogue recording.

Naughty Dog may deliver quite a story surprise, since although Ellie will once again be given “at least as important” a role as in The Last of Us Part II, five new characters are listed among the protagonists.

The developers will focus on survivors who do not live in a quarantine zone, but are trying to survive in the areas of an unknown city. The team is reportedly “crammed into a Victorian house that serves as their base.”

Among the characters mentioned are:

• Lucas — an affable character, but he develops a relationship with another female survivor, and he will have the opportunity to show his dark side,
• Mason – a former soldier who will have to choose between loyalty to other members of the group,
• Val — presumably the leader of the group,
• Ezra — an antagonist who seeks to take the leadership from Val,
• Gracie — a young woman aged 18–25.

If the insider’s reports are accurate, it is not difficult to imagine how the developers will combine Ellie’s storyline with that of the new survivors, as a similar split with multiple narrative threads was used in The Last of Us Part II.

Until now, the developers have focused on depicting the lives of people trapped in temporary cities, but if the leak is confirmed, they will for the first time tell the stories of characters who chose to live independently, which could serve as the foundation for other storylines. The insider emphasizes that everything is subject to change.
