The price of an 8 TB SSD for the PS5 is staggering. Naughty Dog director is also in shock

The latest PS5 firmware will introduce the ability to connect an SSD of up to 8 TB. A great option for gamers with massive game libraries, but the price of such drives is far from small.

As expected, 8 TB SSDs with matching specifications are expensive.

Micro Center's Inland brand sells an M.2 drive without a heatsink on Amazon for $869.99, and with a pre-installed heatsink for $889.99. The Corsair MP600 Pro XT is available for $892.23.

An 8 TB SSD from Western Digital, an official PlayStation partner that releases licensed drives, is expected to hit the market in the near future.

It is reasonable to assume that the first special promotions on PS5 SSDs will also kick off soon, but for now, an 8 TB drive will remain the domain of wealthy console owners.

Kurt Margenau, director at Naughty Dog who worked on The Last of Us Part II and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, addressed the price of the highest-capacity drives for the PS5. He was also taken aback by the amount required for storage expansion.
