Cult 16-bit platformer Gargoyles from Sega Mega Drive will receive a remaster in October

Gargoyles was released in 1995 on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and was a dark 16-bit platformer based on the Disney show.

The game was reminiscent of other Disney projects of the time, such as Aladdin and The Lion King. Both games were re-released in 2021, and now it is Gargoyles’ turn. Below is the first trailer for Gargoyles Remastered.

The Gargoyles remaster was announced in 2022 at the Disney D23 event, but these are the first frames, and now a release date has appeared: October 19.

The Gargoyles adaptation closely followed the series’ plot, in which the protagonist Goliath is transported from medieval Scotland to modern-day New York by a curse that turned him and other gargoyles to stone. Upon awakening, he battles Vikings, robots, and leaps between numerous suspended platforms.

The remaster modernizes the graphics, but does not significantly alter the animation. You can switch between the enhanced visuals and the original sprite art at any moment. There is also a rewind function for fixing mistakes. Gargoyles Remastered will be released on Steam and GOG.
