Xbox leak hints at plans to introduce advertising into Activision PC games

A document from recent leaks indicates Microsoft’s approach to advertising after it acquires Activision Blizzard.

Under the “Advertising” category, PC and mobile games are listed as potential targets, but only mobile games such as Call of Duty Mobile, Candy Crush Saga, and Hearthstone are mentioned.

This could be a reference to future plans under which advertising will be gradually introduced into PC games. Previously, Microsoft pointed to a potential ad-supported Game Pass tier in a survey.

Street Fighter 5 experimented with in-game advertising, and Microsoft might consider a similar option with future Call of Duty titles.

In addition, the documents mention expanding the Game Pass subscription by adding several games, such as Call of Duty, as well as expanding the Xbox ecosystem to create a universal store across all devices.

The AI-powered Microsoft Audience Network (MSAN) provides users with personalized advertising, and adding Activision Blizzard’s data and user base is expected to significantly expand the platform’s capabilities.

It is worth noting that the introduction of in-game advertising has not yet been confirmed. Following the leaks, Phil Spencer acknowledged that plans may change and much of the information is outdated.
