A fresh Alan Wake 2 video highlights the game’s dual structure

Alan Wake 2 will be released at the end of October and will draw those interested into a dark world. Some elements of the first installment will be changed, and less focus will be placed on combat, but there will be even more differences.

One of them is puzzling and at the same time feels intriguing, both in terms of mechanics and plot. There will not be just one playable protagonist, but two. In addition to Alan Wake, Saga Anderson will appear—an FBI agent investigating a mysterious murder that took place in Bright Falls.

The IGN video showcases the game’s dual structure. Players will have great freedom in choosing how much time to spend playing as one character versus the other.

Saga has a “Mind Place” where she conducts investigations and uses clues. Alan has his own version called the “Writer’s Room”. Their mechanics are similar, but each is wrapped in different narrative content.

Alan Wake 2 will be released on October 27, 2023, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
