US senator outraged by layoffs at Microsoft Gaming: FTC must continue the fight to unwind merger

Microsoft fought Sony and the Federal Trade Commission for over a year to acquire Activision Blizzard. The deal closed in late 2023, after which Phil Spencer visited all the teams and spoke about a wonderful future together.

Less than six months after the massive battle, Microsoft announced the layoff of 1,900 Microsoft Gaming employees. The situation sparked a strong backlash, and Elizabeth Warren — a bankruptcy lawyer and politician affiliated with the Democratic Party, US senator from Massachusetts since 2013 – believes that the FTC should continue the fight to undo the merger.

As is known, the Federal Trade Commission is still trying to influence the merger between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. US officials can no longer block the deal since it has already closed, but there is still a chance to force the corporation to unwind it.
