Sega announced “sluggish” sales during the late 2023 holidays

Sega described sales during the holidays at the end of 2023 as “sluggish” and “weak”. This period usually accounts for the peak of sales.

In connection with this, the publisher and developer revised its sales and profit forecasts downward.

Among the games released by the company in the third quarter are Football Manager 2024, Persona 5 Tactica, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Sonic Superstars, and Endless Dungeon, as well as Total War: Pharaoh on PC.

This news is brightened by the company’s recent successes following the reporting period, such as Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload. The games quickly surpassed the one million copy mark and continue to sell actively.

Sega cited several significant industry factors as the reason for lower-than-expected sales, explaining:

“As for the entertainment content industry, in the consumer area, market expansion, mainly in Europe and the US, reached a plateau due to a deteriorating economic situation caused by inflation and other factors.”
