Studio closure instead of an innovative game for PlayStation: Deviation Games, which partnered with Sony, did not even have time to announce its game

Treyarch veterans who worked on Call of Duty were expected to amaze players, but something went wrong and Deviation Games has shut down

Last year, Deviation Games, a studio backed by Sony PlayStation, underwent a wave of layoffs. In 2024, things went as far as closing the studio down completely.

Several developers from Deviation Games shared information about the studio’s closure on social media, which was later confirmed by management as well. There are plans to hold an event for other companies looking to hire employees from the studio.

Developers Jason Blundell and Dave Anthony — Treyarch veterans who worked on Call of Duty — founded Deviation Games in 2020. Judging by the studio's mission statement, it intended to create “the most engaging, innovative games on the planet.”

However, Deviation Games announced its closure without even having had time to announce its first game, which was being developed in collaboration with PlayStation (the studio itself was not owned by Sony).

Many companies in the gaming industry are attempting to cut costs by any means necessary: canceling projects they do not consider promising, shutting down studios, and laying off employees.
