Many PlayStation exclusives have remained stranded on older consoles. Sony has brought far from all desired games to modern platforms in the form of remasters, ports, and the like, which leads enthusiasts to try various emulators to play them. Meanwhile, Xbox serves as an example with its backward compatibility program, which grants access to many legacy titles.
As it turns out, Microsoft has formed a dedicated team focused on game preservation. Windows Central journalists learned about this from internal emails obtained by them, in which Xbox President Sarah Bond shared the news.
The new division is tasked with ensuring forward compatibility for future consoles with older games: protecting the “digital Xbox game libraries from future hardware paradigms” and keeping them playable.
Microsoft is working on integrating Activision Blizzard King games into its services. However, it still remains unclear exactly when the company’s catalog of past (and future) releases will arrive on Xbox Game Pass.
