Players gain access to source code for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077. Major CD Projekt RED data leak

CD Projekt RED's cybersecurity leaves much to be desired. Sensitive data has been stolen from the creators of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077

In 2024, the massive CD Projekt RED data leak that occurred several years ago was brought back into the spotlight. Back then, the source code of the company’s games fell into the hands of the community, but there was a catch — the archives were password-protected, making it impossible to access a significant portion of the content.

That was the case until recently. DSO Gaming noted that an anonymous user posted working passwords for the archives online. As a result, players gained access to the source code of projects such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (original game + next-gen version), Gwent, and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales; and it seems that the source code for Cyberpunk 2077 has also been accessed.

Now, sensitive information regarding CD Projekt RED games is being circulated across various pirate resources.

Earlier, CD Projekt RED unveiled the promised powerful mod editor “The Witcher 3 REDkit” for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and announced testing for the tool.

The developers are building REDkit using the same toolset that was used during the game's development, so it is designed to grant modders almost limitless freedom.
