A cape styled after negative Steam reviews will appear in Helldivers 2

Arrowhead Game Studios plans to add a special "review bombing" cape to the game, inspired by the backlash that hit it in recent days.

Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt shared on social media a “random cape design created by a community member” following Sony's decision to drop the PSN account linking requirement, marked by four red lines to represent the barrage of negative reviews on Steam.

Multiple fan-made designs were then posted over the following hours, with one particularly catching Johan Pilestedt's attention. The cape, titled “The Prodigal Son”, features a visual reference to Helldivers 2's Steam reviews with a description that reads as follows:

“The length of the cape symbolizes the brevity of galactic conflicts, thanks to the efficiency of the Helldivers.”

The final blue arrow is a nod to what fans call “Operation Clean Up”, an effort to reverse the effects of the review bombing campaign, which resulted in Helldivers 2 once again receiving positive reviews on Steam.

The developer promised that the studio would come up with a good name for it, while joking with a fan who asked him about the price of the new in-game item. The developer initially stated that the cape would cost “easily $999.99”, but then added that he was kidding and “it will be free”.
