Recently, a trailer for “yet another Chinese gacha” went viral online. The project is titled 雪松 (Cedrus / Callsign Cedar).
In terms of gameplay, “Callsign Cedar” hardly reinvents the wheel—it is a tactical strategy game with anime girls. The game has caught attention not just because of its local beauties; the point is that the developers are utilizing a “Soviet aesthetic.”
Judging by the note “纳罗达,” the developers are literally from Naroda—that is the studio name listed.
The trailer for “Callsign Cedar” features music by Viktor Tsoi.
The plot premise is described as follows:
“29 years ago, astronauts landed on Nox, a satellite planet of Earth. Inhabitants with animal ears and a mysterious power called "EGO" were discovered there. To boost their international prestige and internal cohesion, two major powers from Earth entered a space race and poured immense resources into Nox, forcing a planet whose technology level corresponded to the 17th century to "connect" with Earth.
However, five years ago, one of the two powers, the Alliance, finally collapsed under the unbearable burden of the space race, and various powers rising from the colossus’s corpse became embroiled in a brutal civil war. The other side, the "Entente," lost the external enemy it relied on to unite its inner circle and plunged into chaos and discord. Orderly and fair competition ceased to exist, and Earth grew even more turbulent and chaotic. At the same time, the nascent industrial system and modern social life on Nox could not function without assistance from Earth.
The victors and losers on both planets were equally anxious. Some Earthlings began pinning their hopes on Nox: perhaps the mysterious EGO skills of the Noxians could bring change and development to the planet; or, at the very least, on a planet that still remained largely pristine [Nox], one might find a new way of life.”
Players take on the role of a civil war veteran who is sent to Nox to conduct EGO research.
