In 2024, Minecraft already turned 15 years old. Mojang Studios decided to talk about the project’s future and noted that it had reconsidered its approach to game development.
Now players can expect “more regular feature releases”. This means that new versions will come out more often — instead of one major update, there will be several, but of varying sizes (i.e. “smaller”).
“We know that you want new Minecraft content more often, which is why we are changing our feature development rhythm. Instead of providing one free update during the summer, as we did in the past, we will now be releasing a number of free game ‘drops’ throughout the year. These game drops will vary in size and will bring you features to explore more frequently.”
The developers of Minecraft also thanked the community for their feedback and suggestions — they have an impact on development; for example, the addition of the cherry blossom (cherry grove), introduced in one of the updates, was an idea from a fan.
