The Spirit of the Samurai is a 2D soulslike game that blends horror, action, and Japanese folklore, with character movements reminiscent of stop-motion animation.
The game will be available on PC starting December 12, 2024, and a demo will arrive during the next Steam Next Fest, which kicks off on October 14. According to Gematsu, console versions will arrive later.
In The Spirit of the Samurai, players will become the Japanese samurai Takeshi, who must protect his village from an onslaught of Oni demons. However, three different characters will face the undead hordes: the skilled samurai Takeshi, a brave little kodama spirit, and a warrior cat named Chisai. Each interacts with the world in their own way, ranging from intense sword combat to platforming and environmental exploration.
