Recently, another major mod was presented for The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Gerwant released the first version of the Tales of the Witcher project.
Tales of the Witcher is a kind of prequel mod for The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: “A new world in another time. As Geralt, you arrive in Cintra long before the events of the books and games. Experience a new story, explore a new world, and take contracts, doing what a witcher was created for — killing monsters”.
The Tales of the Witcher mod is publicly available on Nexus Mods. The current version lacks a map, and Gerwant clarified that this was a deliberate creative decision (though a map might still be added later):
“Conversations with NPCs are designed to guide players toward their future goals. The journal is kept from Geralt’s perspective, where he comments on events and suggests next steps. I could have created quest markers like in the original game, but since I want to provide a more ‘old-school’ RPG experience, I decided against it. I believe exploration and the satisfaction of discovering something on your own are far more engaging...”.
