Recently, Revolution Software brought up the Broken Sword franchise once again. The occasion is not particularly joyful, as the classic quest will soon be removed from Steam.
If nothing changes, Broken Sword 1 Shadow of the Templars: Director's Cut (or Broken Sword: Director's Cut) will be removed from Steam as early as November 4.
The developers explain it as follows: “It was not an easy decision to make, but Broken Sword: Director's Cut has been neglected for the past few years, and knowing that we cannot dedicate significant time to it in the foreseeable future, it felt wrong to keep the game up for sale. Perhaps the situation will change in the future, but for now, we are taking it off sale.”
Earlier, in September 2024, Revolution Software studio presented Broken Sword Shadow of the Templars Reforged — an updated version of the quest that costs $30. Some players connect the removal of Director's Cut ($6) to the creators simply wanting to “earn more money,” and are therefore expressing outrage over what is happening.
