PlayStation studio working on project Gummy Bears, a MOBA with Smash Bros elements — rumor

Bungie is developing a game codenamed Gummy Bears. It is a MOBA with elements inspired by Nintendo's Smash Bros series. Aimed at a younger audience, the project combines a vibrant visual style with dynamic combat mechanics.

Gummy Bears differs from classic MOBAs: instead of the usual health bars, percentages are used, and characters are knocked back farther depending on the damage taken. It is also possible for a character to be knocked off the map, reminiscent of Smash Bros mechanics.

The project features several game modes and three main roles: support, offense, and defense. Offering a low-stress experience and a cozy atmosphere, Gummy Bears is positioned as a game for a younger audience, in contrast to Bungie's typically dramatic worlds.

Development began over three years ago, and now another PlayStation studio has taken over. The studio change occurred following the second round of layoffs at Bungie in 2024, right after the release of a major Destiny 2 update. The game received positive feedback during testing, becoming one of the team's most engaging projects. Around 40 people are working on it.

Recent Bungie patents revealed potential new mechanics, such as dynamic towers that can move, dodge, and use special abilities.
