Electronic Arts’ Origin launcher is still being used in 2025, and the service has a dedicated “fan community”. However, the story of this software is gradually coming to an end.
EA recently sent out emails to users, warning that the Origin client will be permanently shut down on April 17, 2025. Games will not be taken away; the audience is being migrated to the modern EA App service: after the specified date, the old client will no longer be usable.
Judging by the feedback, not everyone is happy with the new EA App, and they would rather stay with Origin than make the switch.
EA support explained the decision to close Origin by stating that “...Microsoft has ended support for 32-bit software. If you're using Origin, you'll need to upgrade to the EA app, which requires a 64-bit version of Windows [10 / 11]”.
