Xbox breaks boundaries. Support for drives over 16 TB announced

Microsoft has announced support for external hard drives larger than 16 TB for Xbox consoles. The new feature is available to Xbox Insiders and will be gradually rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.

Xbox owners will be able to connect high-capacity external drives to their consoles. New drives exceeding 16 TB will be automatically split into multiple partitions, allowing all available space to be used for games and apps. The partitions will appear as separate devices in the storage list.

It is important to note that already formatted drives over 16 TB will not be affected by the update, but they will need to be reformatted to use the new feature.

Previously, Xbox consoles supported up to three external drives, each with a capacity of up to 16 TB, providing a maximum of 48 TB of external storage. With the new update, Microsoft has not specified a maximum capacity, which may mean there is no upper limit thanks to the implemented partitioning system.

Expanding storage capabilities will allow users to keep an extensive game library on external drives. Solutions for users seeking high capacity are available on the market, such as the 12 TB WD_BLACK D10 Game Drive for Xbox, which can hold up to 300 games.
