Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will take players to a mysterious world inspired by Belle Époque France. The project has been intriguing ever since its first trailer, and the creators often share new materials. Media outlets have now published articles describing their impressions after several hours of gameplay.
Reviewers praise the audiovisual presentation. As RPG Site notes, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 offers “absolutely gorgeous visuals,” IGN calls it a “visual feast,” and Eurogamer claims that in some places your “jaw drops.” The music is also impressive.
There is also plenty of positive feedback regarding the gameplay. Some players were disappointed to learn that Expedition 33 would feature turn-based combat. However, Sandfall Interactive has long maintained that it will be engaging. As IGN describes, each character has a melee attack and a ranged attack. The former generates special points that are consumed by ranged attacks. Ranged skills allow players to manually target an enemy’s weak spot.
Combat dynamism is enhanced by the ability to parry an enemy attack. Eurogamer points out that pressing the button at the right moment is quite challenging. And that is on medium difficulty.
The developers confirmed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will feature three difficulty levels, including a story mode designed for those who prefer less demanding gameplay. A battle against one of the bosses can be seen in a video on X.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be released on April 24, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. From day one, the game will be available on Game Pass.
