Arcadegeddon failed — now the game is being given away for free. No compensation provided

The shooter Arcadegeddon by IllFonic fell short of expectations. Despite positive reviews in 2021, the project failed to attract an audience: its peak player count on Steam was just 939 people.

In an effort to save the game, IllFonic transitioned it to a free-to-play model. The shooter is available for free on PC via Steam, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The developers worked on multiplayer projects such as Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, Predator: Hunting Grounds, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, but Arcadegeddon failed to replicate their success.

On Steam, the game holds a 73% positive review rating, and anyone can try it out. However, those who purchased Arcadegeddon previously are dissatisfied: the developers do not offer refunds, providing only an exclusive cosmetic item and access to two new weapons, Cyber Katana and Firecracker.

Switching to a free-to-play model might revive the project, but it is still unknown whether this will help expand the player base.
