Over 70% of gamers believe bots ruin the multiplayer experience — survey

A new survey revealed that the majority of players regularly encounter bots in multiplayer.

The World.org study surveyed 818 adults in the US who play online on PC, consoles, and mobile devices.

Key findings:

  • 59% of respondents stated that they regularly encounter third-party bots in games;
  • 71% believe that bots ruin the competitive spirit;
  • 74% noted that this takes the fun out of playing;
  • 18% quit games due to the influx of bots;
  • 75% of players spending 10+ hours a week online support biometric verification;
  • 77% agree that proof of humanity is necessary.

To address the issue, Razer and World.org created the “Razer ID verified by World ID” system. This is a new single sign-on (SSO) technology confirming that the player is a real human. The first game to use this system will be Tokyo Beast.

It is currently unclear how long the technology will remain exclusive to Razer ID. If the experiment proves successful, similar methods could appear in other popular competitive games.
