According to CNBC, Apple shares have plummeted 23% over the past week alone. The reason is concerns that the company’s products will become too expensive in the US even for loyal fans. Microsoft, for its part, is less dependent on Chinese manufacturing and earns more from software. Its decline was around 7%, which proved enough to top the global market capitalization rankings once again.
Apple had previously conceded first place to Microsoft, then to NVIDIA, but quickly regained its positions. Now much depends on how the tariff war continues: if the duties remain in place, Apple risks staying in second place for a long time.
For comparison, Microsoft became the leader last year as well, but the situation changed quickly. This time, the advantage was brought about not by technological breakthroughs, but by economic and political decisions that impacted the market.
