Former Blizzard head criticizes Diablo 4: “I don’t see where it’s going”

Diablo 4 is once again at the center of criticism. This time, discontent was voiced by former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra, who led the studio from 2019 to 2024. He stated that the game is heading nowhere and its current strategy is “unsustainable.” The catalyst was the recently published roadmap for 2025.

Players expected massive changes after the Vessel of Hatred expansion, but Blizzard’s plans disappointed many. Among the announced additions are keyboard and mouse support on consoles and improvements to the “Hordes” mode. However, according to Ybarra, this does not solve the key issues: a weak endgame, repetitive content, boring bosses, and an uninspiring reward system.

He noted that the studio is stuck in an endless cycle of “band-aids” and superficial tweaks. According to him, the project lacks a real strategy.

The community also reacted harshly. In some respects, players found sympathy even within Blizzard itself — community manager Lyricana_Nightrayne assured that “the best is yet to come,” but her vague responses only heightened doubts.

The next major update is scheduled for 2026.
