In the interview, Ishizaki explained that the greatest challenge for the developers was maintaining a balance between innovation and loyalty to the core principles of the Elden Ring universe.
“We could have radically changed the mechanics, but that could have turned the game into something completely different. The main objective was to introduce fresh ideas without disrupting the atmosphere of the original.”
He also discussed the ally revival system, which allows players to restore them through attacks, as well as other changes implemented following network tests. In the final version of the game, bosses will adapt to players’ tactics, forcing them to constantly alter their strategies and approaches during battles.
The game director noted that working on Elden Ring: Nightreign demanded tremendous effort to preserve the project’s uniqueness while adding new elements that would appeal to both longtime and new fans. Ishizaki emphasized that the most critical task for the team was to keep the bar of quality high and make the game engaging.
Elden Ring: Nightreign will be released on May 30, 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
