The creator of the YouTube channel Any Austin is back with another investigation. This time, his attention was drawn to the Boeing 747 aircraft (the exact model is open to debate: the YouTuber himself identified it as a 747-8, but a community member noted that it is more likely a 747-400, in whose design Rockstar also used several elements from other models).
Any Austin wondered: can a Boeing 747 actually land in the world of GTA 5? He started with the obvious — analyzing the airports. After calculations and consulting with a real pilot, he concluded that a normal landing is impossible at the airports featured in GTA 5.
He based his analysis on the plane’s dimensions: the length of the Boeing 747 in question is 250 feet (about 76 meters), while the runway is around 3,000 feet (~914 meters). Landing utilizes the section of the runway between the thresholds, so the actual “landing zone” is reduced to 2,500 feet (~762 meters).
