OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that Washington risks underestimating the expansion of its main competitor. His comments have raised concerns among experts and politicians.
During a meeting with journalists in San Francisco, he emphasized that Chinese companies are rapidly increasing their data processing capabilities, and their advantage is related not only to technology but also to large-scale research of various models.
According to Altman, American restrictions on equipment exports do not curb progress. Even without access to the latest GPUs and chips, China is developing its own semiconductor factories and actively using open-source models.
The head of OpenAI noted that China's open strategy forced the company to publish its models. Meanwhile, DeepSeek and MoonshotAI are already leading in international rankings, offering solutions that are becoming increasingly popular among developers.
Altman warned that the current US line may not only prove ineffective but also accelerate the growth of China's self-sufficiency, strengthening its position in the global AI market.
