The device is equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with integrated Radeon graphics, XDNA NPU up to 50 TOPS, 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory, and a 120 Hz 1080p screen. It is the first Xbox-branded handheld PC, offering a Steam Deck-like experience.
At Gamescom 2025, user @carygolomb tested ROG Ally X in DOOM: The Dark Ages. With ray tracing enabled, 70 fps was achieved at 1080p, consuming 28W. But there are nuances: the game was running on low-medium settings with FSR 3 at 50% and Frame Generation enabled, so the actual frame rate without upscaling was about 35 FPS.
FSR and frame generation help save battery and increase efficiency, but image quality suffers and there is latency. Microsoft has confirmed that it plans to use the NPU ROG Xbox Ally X for its upscaling and AI Frame Generation technologies, which could significantly improve graphics and smoothness in portable gaming.
