Matt Piscatella, Executive Director at Circana, drew attention to possible further increases, writing on BlueSky: "It was only a matter of time. We will likely see such price jumps more than once." The expert warns that Sony's actions are only the beginning, and new, inevitable changes in cost are possible in the future.
Interestingly, all this is happening against the backdrop of record financial performance. In the first quarter, Sony earned $6.5 billion, and the PlayStation segment brought in $1 billion in operating profit — the best result since the pandemic. The price increase is designed to increase revenue per unit and stabilize revenue in the global market, full of duties and instability.
